How would you finish this sentence…

I was plugging away at work yesterday when, seemingly out of nowhere, a random thought popped in my head.  I wondered to myself; “I wonder why coffee, in my opinion, tastes better hot than it does cold?” I like Iced coffee, but I find that I need to put more Splenda in my cold coffee than in my hot coffee. Why? So, I did what most people 40 and under do when we have a question, we Google it! As I started typing in the question into Google I noticed the “advanced search” tool kicking into action.  The advanced search tool is the when Google tries to finish your search for you, as you are typing, based on all the previous searches and the key words you are entering. So, by the time I enter the phrase; “Why does coffee…” it gave me several search options based on the most searched phrases that start with “Why does coffee…” Please see the screen shot below with the phrases that were the most popular ending to the beginning phrase; “Why does coffee…”

Why does coffee...?

The advanced search tool, if you think about it, is an amazing little device.  It is a way for us to tap into the collective thoughts of everyone who uses the Google search engine, and since the advanced search tool finishes your thoughts, based on what phrase is searched the most, we are given an unexpected peek into the collective thoughts of the Googleverse.   After I had this realization I started typing random things into Google to see what interesting insights I could find.  By far the most interesting advanced search results I came across was when I typed in the phrase “Why are Christians so…”. Take a look at the results below.

These results continue to remind me that Jesus is often misrepresented by his followers and subsequently misunderstood by seekers and cynics.  As followers of Jesus our challenge today is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself! I have a feeling that if we were able to get this greatest commandment down that these Google results would look a lot different! What do you think? How would you finish this sentence? Why are Christians so…?

Good stuff, Barista! I’ll be honest, I am not sure how to finish that sentence. Lucky? Blessed? Full of Grace? Full of —-? Hum, I think I have a new “big question” to ask myself on a daily basis. Thanks for the insight Barry. As always it’s good stuff.

ED, I know what you mean. I am not sure how to finish it either… But I think blessed is a good start! Thanks for the encouragement and the response!

Love those Google suggestions. There’s a bunch of sites that compile the weird ones. Never thought of using it to see what people are searching about us. That’s awesome, and convicting.

    Thanks Matt,
I am going to have to look for those sites that compile them, they sound funny. I hope things are going well at your blog!

Sadly I think you are right, and even more sadly I think I am guilty!
