In & Out Burger and the Bible

I left church last night, around 10:00 pm, not having eaten dinner, and completely exhausted from leading a 3 hour training session (on not a very fun topic.) On the way home I had this urge/craving to call my friend, and old roommate, Jin Park and go grab a “Double-Double” (animalized) from In and Out Burger. What is In and Out Burger, you say? Well, to say that they are the really good hamburgers would be like saying that the Sistine Chapel is a really good painting. Next time you’re on the West Coast you MUST get one, and bring one back for me.

And, as many people know, they are a Christian company and print different Bible verses on their paper products.

Soda Cups have John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Milk shake cups have Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Hamburger/Cheeseburger wrappers have Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

The Double/Double has Nahum 1:7

The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.

Have you ever been to In and Out Burger? Where? Are you a fan? What do you think about putting the Bible Verses on their cups? Is it good ministry or a turn off? If a company is willing to put what they believe on their products should we be a little more bold, with others, and creatively share the verses that daily encourage us? Thoughts?

    Yes! I’ve been to In and Out Burger and love it :) I went last time I was in the Los Angeles area visiting my grandparents. I can’t say I ever noticed that there were bible verses on their paper products so of course I went online to look up pictures. I think since they’re subtle about where they put the bible verses (and not pushing their beliefs down people’s throats) that it is a great ministry. I always wish I could quote more bible verses off the top of my head, but I have issues remembering them. This post encouraged me to be more intentional about sharing God’s love with people today but also really made me want to eat at In and Out Burger!

    I have been to a few in the LA and San Fernando Valley too. I am with you… I am trying to commit more of the scripture to heart and to look for creative ways to encourage people with the word of God. Shoud we take a road trip to go get some burgers? we could do a Hill/Sheridan road trip…. How amny kids would that be? 11? And four adults? That’s a lot of burgers.

    Love In and Out Burger! It is the only good thing about moving to Utah. Been to two in Laguna and one in Utah. Funny you posted about this, Chris was just reading about it online the other night. When he said something, I said “Yeah. Haven’t you noticed the Revelations verse on the hamburger wrapper?!” Hope Ella is loving kindergarten :)

    Wow…in Utah too? I didn’t know that. So if you would work on a picture of you and the kids feeding an In & Out Burger to a Moose that would be great! Yeah, Ella is loving kindergarten and has already jumped in with both feet, in true Ella style. Well, you are super missed around this neck of the woods and hope to see you soon! Please tell the rest of the clan I send my best!

    Whose car are we taking? Maybe we could rent one of those double decker tour buses with the open top?

    Why can’t we just go back putting Christians an arenas with tigers? Just like the good old days. Please don’t try and shove (literally) your religious bullshit down my throat.
