Yesterday I admitted to a large class of Middle and High School students, as I was preparing to speak on the story of Jacob, that sometimes I like to read children’s Bibles during my own devotional and study time, as well as to my kids before bed. (Right now we are reading The BFG together.)
He is Here
My favorite Children’s Bible ever is The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Loyd Jones, Illustrated by Jago. The illustrations are amazing and Sally does a masterful job at pointing toward the meta-narrative of scripture, which is why the subtitle of the book is Every story whispers his name.
This story Bible makes a GREAT Christmas present and fantastic devotional for you and your kids.
Will your prize be destroyed one day, or will your prize last forever? Listen to the words of the Apostle Paul.
I refuse to be disqualified!
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Refuse to be disqualified!
What app has had the biggest (positive) impact on me this year? No, it’s not Angry Birds or Words with Friends! It’s You Versions FREE Bible App. It was the 33rd most downloaded free iPhone App and 100th most downloaded free app for the iPad. It has great features and interface. I will be reading through the entire Bible again this year, but I will be keeping track of my progress on this app. Why don’t you join me? What was your favorite app of 2011?

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Tim Tebow fan, but I was listening to some guy on the radio explain how big and amazing God is because The Denver Broncos have won a few games with Tebow at the helm. It made me think that something is really wrong with our God-perspective when winning a football game becomes a crucial indicator of how big God is. True, we give thanks to God for all good things, and football is one of them, but I am humbling submitting that we (me too) have lost a little perspective?
So, last night, while Rachel was out doing some late night shopping, and the kids were asleep, I put together some of NASA’s public domain images, from Hubble and the ISS, and made a little video (3:00). Com’-on you have 3 minutes, don’t you?
I hope this video will remind you today just how BIG God really is and that His grace and love for us is immeasurable. At least try to make it to the transition at minute 2:15 and see who shows up in the credits! If you like the video, please consider passing it around the web a little, thanks!
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:3
Special credit to NASA for making these images public domain for the world to experience. Also, thanks to Gungor for making amazing music that has brought many of us closer to God! Lastly, if you are curious how they get the color in these pictures check out this excellent article by Slate.com.
